Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools gives $155,000 to district schools
February’s Annual Fund Drive To Raise Money for Next Year’s Programs
TIGARD, Ore. (Feb. 13, 2012) ¾ The Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools announces today that it is giving $155,000 to fund learning programs, the arts and innovative teaching in the district’s 15 schools. This record level of giving by The Foundation comes as statewide funding for education takes another recession-related decline and districts trim staff and programs.
“The Foundation is proud to grant money that’s empowering schools to deliver additional educational programs, technology and resources that wouldn’t otherwise be possible in this economy,” said Margie Greene, president of The Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools. “We share this success with the local community who have stepped up to support our schools in such a significant way.”
The Foundation is providing funding through the following Grants:
- Foundation School Grants – $135,000 total or $9,000 given to each school to fund their areas of greatest need. Examples include teachers and instructional assistants to offset high class sizes; curriculum-based programs to support accelerated and approaching students; technology like iPads, iPod Touches and Kindles to support curriculum; Lego and robotics programs; and high school homework clubs.
- Art In The Burbs Grants — $15,000 divided among all schools to fund visual and performance art programs. Individual schools determine how grants are applied to their programs.
- Innovative Teaching Grants — $5,000 in grants to district teachers who are offering unique programs that engage students and encourage learning. Winners are Charles F. Tigard Elementary’s Wildcat Drum Team, Fowler Middle’s Learning Through GPS, Hazelbrook Middle’s Lego Robotics Club and Tigard High’s Proficiency Physics.
To continue and grow this level of giving, The Foundation is holding it’s annual Fund Drive in February, the non-profit’s biggest fundraising effort of the year. Donations are being accepted online and volunteers will be soliciting donations at it’s annual phone outreach.
