The 2015 Principals’ Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held at Hayden’s Grill on Thursday, April 30. The principal at each school in the district nominated an outstanding volunteer (or sometimes a team of two!) from their school community and accompanied the volunteer to the dinner. Musical entertainment was provided before and during dinner by high school musicians. The student band “Streetwise” from Tualatin High School featuring 9th grade musicians Wade Hobbs, Kien Nguyen, Andrew Wells, and Chris Wise, played jazz and pop selections. Vocalists Hannah Fuller and Kate Thresher from Tigard High School sang two musical selections.
Present in addition to principals and volunteers were TTSD Superintendent Ernie Brown, TTSD administrative staff, TTSD School Board members, and Foundation Board members. After dinner, each principal introduced their outstanding volunteer to the crowd and explained how the individual had impacted their school and community. (Foundation Executive Director Margie Greene introduced Foundation special honoree Brian Haliski, a second grade teacher at Metzger Elementary School, who used the recent coin drive at his school as an important lesson in math and the power of working together in his classroom.)
